On Thursday 20th May at 6pm CTEC site crew received the first shipment of 50,000L of diesel fuel oil which will be used to start up the two Pratt and Whitney Power Systems (PWPS) FT8-3 Swiftpac Gas Turbines at the Kwinana Swift Power Station.
The first fuel shipment was unloaded in the unloading facility and pumped into one of the dirty fuel receiving tanks for cleaning. Even though the received fuel is clean it does not meet the strict requirements of the gas turbines.
Over the following days oil will be circulated between the tanks and though pipes to clean the system and raise the quality of the oil to meet the PWPS specifications.
An additional 30,000L of fuel was received on Monday and will go through the same process.
The first startup of the two gas turbines is expected to occur Friday 28th May.
Friday the 20th of August, marks the successful completion of the Kwinana Swift Power Station as the Minister of Energy Peter Collier officially opened the plant.
First fire in Gas Turbine 2 at the Kwinana Swift Power Station marks the completion of the cold commissioning for the Gas Turbines.
